Centuries Later and White People Still Ain't Shit
White people ain’t been shit for some time now. For centuries they’ve robbed, killed, and danced off beat. And this is something that is a well-known fact amongst people of color. From slavery, Jim Crow laws, Redlining, mass incarceration, etc., there has been a constant reminder to people of color that White people ain’t shit.
That being said, how are the events that took place over the weekend in Charlottesville a shock to the members of the White delegation? Why are they flabbergasted and taken aback by the horrible actions that took place this weekend? After all, these men and women have families and friends. And I refuse to believe that all of their families and friends were unaware of their deep hatred. When you have a hatred that’s so deep that you’re willing to plow your vehicle into a crowd of protesters or bash in someone’s head with a pipe, you can’t keep that a secret. That hatred is going to show itself. The hatred shows itself and its ignored by the White family and friends because “I’m not gonna change my cousin’s mind… I’d rather not get into an argument with him. It’s a waste of time.” White people are more concerned with preserving a friendship or having a peaceful Thanksgiving meal than confronting racism. And because these hateful people know that there are little to no repercussions for their hatred, they feel no need to exam themselves. Therefore, they keep on going with the bullshit.
Black people, don’t let these White people fool you into thinking that they’re actually shocked by the behavior in Charlottesville. They aren’t shocked by the actions. They just want to pretend that they are so they have an excuse for not doing shit to combat racism for all these years. I refuse to give them the privilege of skating by on this. They fucking knew what their cousins were capable of but they didn’t care because it ultimately wouldn’t hurt them. They’ve shown us for years that they are very well capable of marching and protesting for things they believe in. Hell, when I was in college they stopped Chick-fil-a from setting up shop in the cafeteria because they didn’t want the LGBTQ community to feel threatened. They will find their way to the red carpet of the Grammy’s to through fake blood on a fur coat. So, don’t be fooled, they know how to organize and protest. They just don’t care or have any desire to do so when it comes to standing up for Black folk.
So, here we are. And I refuse to spend too much time on this subject simply because I didn’t create this monster known as racism; White people did. In the same matter, I didn’t feed the fire oxygen through my silence; White people did. So, instead of pretending to be shocked that your friends ain’t shit, organize—like y’all did when you’ll walked your asses out there with them ugly ass hats on—and fix this shit that White people created.
Stop making excuses for these trash ass White people and reclaim your time.
