Kim Burrell, Shut Up...
Kim Burrell can sing her ass off… but she needs to shut the fuck up.
First, I want to say this-- There is nothing wrong with being a Christian identifying something as a sin and advocating against such things. Especially when the shit is in the actual Bible (I have to say that because you know how people like to add shit to the Good Book). That being said, there is nothing wrong with saying “Hey, good people, sex before marriage is bad. You shouldn’t do it and it’s a sin.” See, that was easy. That statement isn’t making anyone less of a human for having sex outside of marriage nor is it demeaning those who fall into that category. It’s simply noting that their religion feels that those actions are wrong. In the same way, some religions feel as if eating pork is unclean and those that partake in eating pork are also unclean. Boom-- that’s simple and easy.
The problem comes into play when you dehumanize those who partake in actions that are considered a sin. If sin makes one less of a human, I guess we’re all fucked up, huh? But that’s not what happens. People usually rank sins in order of what they personally find most disgusting. Because homosexuality is the easiest to target, often you find that preachers will speak harshly on the subject, often calling homosexuals derogatory terms. They do this and if someone dares to question their delivery, they resort to the ol’ faithful, “The world has clouded the minds of the people and they want you to accept any ol’ thing! This is a war of the spirit and the mind…” — something along those lines. In other words, they’ll try to make all sorts of excuses for being plain ol’ hateful and it’ll usually ended up being the fault of “the world”. They’ll tell you that they’re not dressing anything up for the devil and that people need to hear the unfiltered truth and what thus says The Lord. News flash, you can be unfiltered and say the truth without dehumanizing and calling a person out of their name. They just don’t want to do it.
See, what I find is that most of the time, these people just want to say some hurtful shit. They say hurtful things all in the name of saving souls. But the truth of the matter is that they aren’t trying to save souls. They’re trying to hurt people. They want to shame people into living right. They figure if they can call you a f*g enough times that you’ll straighten up and fall in line with the Word. But it never works that way. We’ve seen it happen time and time again. Most of the gay men never come out of the closet and just end up sleeping around on their wives with some dude he met on Grindr-- CC: Eddie Long. With about 10% of the entire world’s population being gay… not everyone in the church is straight. Matter of fact, the deacons and preachers know that. They let these gay men play the organ, lead songs, and direct choirs. In the words of Pastor Dewy Smith, homosexuality is fine as long as it’s generating money for the church. As long as these super saved folk can find a use for the gay people they bash while in the pulpit, it’s all good. Kim was about to take her ass right on Ellen’s show and cheese and be phony. This was okay because Ellen’s platform was going to be what she needed to push her latest album. If you’re going to be hateful, be consistent at least! If these people are as bad as you want to make them, why let them into your space? Why even use the homosexual platform as a tool to push your work?
Kim Burrell probably got her makeup done by a gay man and had that fat ass wig curled and slid on her head by a “pervert”. But it’s okay, because in that case, the gays put themselves to good use... Trash. Oh, and let’s not forget how she got her ass on Frank Ocean’s song and collected that coin from a openly bi-sexual man. Ugh. I’d have a little more respect for these type of people if they were consistent with their bullshit.
Kim, just stick to singing.
